What is SONDER?

–The following text contains spoilers for the game–
SONDER is a first-person exploration game.
The game’s narrative unfolds within the confines of an asteroid as it traverses the galaxy. The inhabitants
are frog-mushroom humanoids known as Sonderlings, which have been artificially propagated on an asteroid by humanity for the purpose of experimentation. The Sonderlings, in the wake of this, have established a civilisation that incorporates numerous caves with tunnels within the asteroid.

At the current point in the game, which is set in a time ping-pong, the asteroid is flying very close to the sun. This is causing the layer of ice that has formed on the asteroid’s surface to melt, thereby affecting life inside with a steadily rising water level.

The resulting environment is one of an apocalyptic nature, the purpose of which is to convey the feelings of a happy place currently breaking down.
